I. MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
------------------------------
Windows 95:
Pentium 100
16 Mb of RAM
256 colors (16-bit color recommended)
4x CD-ROM
12 Mb hard disk space
Macintosh:
Power Mac
16 Mb of RAM (24 Mb recommended)
10,500Kb free
256 colors (thousands recommended)
4x CD-ROM
12 Mb hard disk space
II. INSTALLING CAPTAIN'S CHAIR
------------------------------
INSTALLING ON A POWER MACINTOSH:
1. Insert the Captain's Chair CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Find the folder called "Star Trek Captain's Chair(TM)" and
drag copy it to your hard drive. (It uses about 12 Mb of space.)
4. To launch the program, open the "Star Trek Captain's
Chair(TM)" folder on your hard drive, then double click on the
file called "Captain's Chair Player."
(If you would like to locate the program in a more
convenient location, you can make an Alias for it.)
How to Make an Alias: Select the Player icon on your hard
drive by clicking on it only once. Type COMMAND-M. This
creates a new icon you can drag anywhere.
QuickTime(TM)
Captain's Chair requires QuickTime 2.5 or higher. If you do
not have QT 2.5 or higher, you can install it from the CD.
To install, drag all of the files from the folder on the CD
called "Copy Contents to your System Folder" onto the System
Folder icon on your hard drive. Your Mac will automatically
place them in your Extensions folder.
If the system reminds you that your version of QuickTime is in
use, you must first drag the old version of QuickTime to the
trash. Then follow the directions above. Your old version of
QuickTime is in the System Folder, in the Extensions Folder.
INSTALLING ON WINDOWS 95:
1. Insert the Captain's Chair CD into your CDROM drive.
2. From the START menu, select "Run..." If your CD-ROM drive
is letter D, type "D:\SETUP.EXE" and click "OK". (If your
CD-ROM has a drive letter other than D:\, substitute that
letter.) The installation will begin. Follow the onscreen
instructions.
QuickTime
QuickTime 2.1.2 is required to run Captain's Chair. QuickTime
is automatically installed. If you do not wish to install
QuickTime, you can uncheck the box during the installation.
III. ADJUSTING YOUR COLOR DEPTH (Mac and Windows)
-------------------------------------------
You may pre-set your monitor to any setting from
256 colors (8-bit) to Millions of Colors (24-bit), but the
program is optimized for 16-bit (Thousands). Video and the
panoramas look best at 16-bit (Thousands) and higher.
To change your color depth:
Macintosh:
On the Apple Menu, select Control Panels, then Monitors
and Sound. Select Thousands (or Millions)
Windows 95:
From the Start Menu select Settings and then Control
Panels. Double-click on Display. On the Settings tab,
select High Color (16 bit) from Color palette drop-down
box. Click Apply. You may have to restart Windows for the
change to take effect.
IV. TROUBLESHOOTING
-------------------
Having other applications open while the Captain's Chair
is running may cause poor performance. We highly recommend
quitting all other programs, turning off networking, and
disabling any unnecessary system extensions or memory-
resident programs.
WINDOWS 95:
Video Driver Settings: Some problems, such as your computer
locking-up upon startup of the Captain's Chair, can be
traced to the settings of your display driver. In some
cases changing the video resolution may help. Consult your
hardware supplier's documentation for details if you need
assistance with these settings.
Shell Programs/Wallpaper: Please turn off wallpaper and
disable any kind of custom shell program before running
Captain's Chair. Be advised that inadequate DOS memory
is frequently the cause of poor performance or missing
graphics or sound.
MACINTOSH:
Please turn off Virtual Memory.
If the Ship Diagrams do not display, you may be low on
available memory. Ship Diagrams need 14,000Kb free to run.
Turning on Virtual Memory will allow you to view the
Ship Diagrams, but may degrade performance.
V. TECHNICAL SUPPORT
