  14.      I. MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  33.      II. INSTALLING CAPTAIN'S CHAIR
  34.      ------------------------------

  36.      INSTALLING ON A POWER MACINTOSH:
  37.      
  38.      1. Insert the Captain's Chair CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  39.      
  40.      2. Find the folder called "Star Trek Captain's Chair(TM)" and
  41.      drag copy it to your hard drive. (It uses about 12 Mb of space.)
  42.      
  43.      4. To launch the program, open the "Star Trek Captain's 
  44.      Chair(TM)" folder on your hard drive, then double click on the 
  45.      file called "Captain's Chair Player."
  46.      
  47.         (If you would like to locate the program in a more 
  48.          convenient location, you can make an Alias for it.)
  49.      
  50.         How to Make an Alias: Select the Player icon on your hard 
  51.         drive by clicking on it only once. Type COMMAND-M. This 
  52.         creates a new icon you can drag anywhere.
  53.      
  54.      
  55.      QuickTime(TM)
  56.      
  57.      Captain's Chair requires QuickTime 2.5 or higher. If you do
  58.      not have QT 2.5 or higher, you can install it from the CD.
  59.      To install, drag all of the files from the folder on the CD 
  60.      called "Copy Contents to your System Folder" onto the System 
  61.      Folder icon on your hard drive. Your Mac will automatically 
  62.      place them in your Extensions folder.
  63.      
  64.      If the system reminds you that your version of QuickTime is in 
  65.      use, you must first drag the old version of QuickTime to the 
  66.      trash. Then follow the directions above. Your old version of 
  67.      QuickTime is in the System Folder, in the Extensions Folder.

  70.      INSTALLING ON WINDOWS 95: 
  71.      
  72.      1. Insert the Captain's Chair CD into your CDROM drive. 
  73.      
  74.      2. From the START menu, select "Run..." If your CD-ROM drive 
  75.      is letter D, type "D:\SETUP.EXE" and click "OK". (If your 
  76.      CD-ROM has a drive letter other than D:\, substitute that 
  77.      letter.) The installation will begin. Follow the onscreen 
  78.      instructions.

  80.      QuickTime
  81.      
  82.      QuickTime 2.1.2 is required to run Captain's Chair. QuickTime 
  83.      is automatically installed. If you do not wish to install 
  84.      QuickTime, you can uncheck the box during the installation.

  87.      III. ADJUSTING YOUR COLOR DEPTH (Mac and Windows)
  88.      -------------------------------------------
  89.      You may pre-set your monitor to any setting from 
  90.      256 colors (8-bit) to Millions of Colors (24-bit), but the 
  91.      program is optimized for 16-bit (Thousands). Video and the 
  92.      panoramas look best at 16-bit (Thousands) and higher.
  93.      
  94.      To change your color depth:
  95.      
  96.      Macintosh:
  97.        On the Apple Menu, select Control Panels, then Monitors
  98.        and Sound. Select Thousands (or Millions)
  99.      
  100.      Windows 95:
  101.        From the Start Menu select Settings and then Control
  102.        Panels. Double-click on Display. On the Settings tab,
  103.        select High Color (16 bit) from Color palette drop-down
  104.        box. Click Apply. You may have to restart Windows for the
  105.        change to take effect.
  106.

  108.      IV. TROUBLESHOOTING
  109.      -------------------
  110.      Having other applications open while the Captain's Chair 
  111.      is running may cause poor performance. We highly recommend
  112.      quitting all other programs, turning off networking, and
  113.      disabling any unnecessary system extensions or memory-
  114.      resident programs.
  115.      
  116.      WINDOWS 95:
  117.      
  118.      Video Driver Settings: Some problems, such as your computer 
  119.      locking-up upon startup of the Captain's Chair, can be 
  120.      traced to the settings of your display driver. In some 
  121.      cases changing the video resolution may help. Consult your 
  122.      hardware supplier's documentation for details if you need 
  123.      assistance with these settings.
  124.      
  125.      Shell Programs/Wallpaper: Please turn off wallpaper and
  126.      disable any kind of custom shell program before running 
  127.      Captain's Chair. Be advised that inadequate DOS memory 
  128.      is frequently the cause of poor performance or missing 
  129.      graphics or sound.
  130.      
  131.      
  132.      MACINTOSH: 
  133.      
  134.      Please turn off Virtual Memory.
  135.      
  136.      If the Ship Diagrams do not display, you may be low on 
  137.      available memory. Ship Diagrams need 14,000Kb free to run.
  138.      Turning on Virtual Memory will allow you to view the 
  139.      Ship Diagrams, but may degrade performance.
